Who will be the trendiest heroes this year?

Whether it's clothes, games or school supplies, superheroes are everywhere and our children sometimes worship them. These fictional characters with extraordinary powers and destiny are not only role models for the youngest, but they have also become fashion phenomena in a few years. The trend for the youngest therefore closely follows the evolution of these influencers like no other. Thus, each year, new superheroes appear, some are more popular while others go from light to shade. For 2021, we conducted the survey to find out which superheroes are going to be.

Why this passion for superheroes?

Related to the world of fantasy and science fiction, superheroes are now almost part of our daily lives and that of our children as they are present in all fields. Although they seem to come straight out of our modern society, their origin goes back a long way because it is in my mythology that they find their roots. Popularized through comic book publications with Batman, Spiderman and Superman, superheroes then democratized through the creation of films and cartoons featuring them. However, apart from Hollywood marketing, which has greatly contributed to this passion for heroes, the passion for supers goes beyond glitz and glitter.

In a sometimes sullen daily life, superheroes not only manage to entertain the population but also to bring a reassuring side to the world. The genius of these extraordinary characters is to create a sense of belonging or resemblance to the spectators. By watching the films and cartoons as well as reading the comics, we are able to identify with them even though they possess extraordinary faculties.

While some adults fully adhere to the world of superheroes, for children, these characters are like role models that give them confidence and reassurance about the future. Indeed, we notice that despite their superpowers that could theoretically make them totally invincible, they too have weaknesses and show a vulnerable side that makes them human.

When a child proudly wears a piece of clothing, a school bag or a school supply bearing the image of his superhero, it is a bit like putting on his costume and becoming stronger and more confident. The passion of superheroes is not about to die out in the hearts of our children as well as in the dreamy spirit of the parents!

Who are the trendiest heroes in 2021?

If heroes are present on our screens or in our consoles, they also have a great influence on fashion and the latest trends. In addition, as with any collection, fashions and trends change with the seasons and years. So who will be the trendiest heroes in 2021?

Heroes from diversity honoured

We are at a time when attitudes are changing and the desire to represent diversity is increasingly present. While this is manifested by profound societal changes and changes in everyday behaviour, fashion is also taking a step forward in these developments, and this is reflected in the increasing presence of heroes from diversity. In 2021, as a desire to make a difference, the younger generations like to honour characters that have hither some recently been poorly represented. DC and Marvel understood this with the presence of Batwoman and Valkyrie, who are the first heroines from the LGBTQ community.

Today, smooth, blond, virile and muscular heroes have given way to Mixed-race, gay, black, cosmopolitan heroes. The tendency is no longer to do "like everyone else" but to display one's preferences, differences and struggles. If the younger ones do not yet have these notions, the fact that they are immersed in a world of tolerance where difference is an asset, then encourages them to accept those who are not like them or who do not think in the same way.

Heroines in the spotlight

For many years, female characters were very little represented in the world of superheroes. The trend today is to take the opposite step and highlight the super-heroines in the same way as their male acolytes. The Girl Power is on the front page and we want to highlight not only women but also female heroines from diversity as illustrated for example by the new Marvel character kamala Khan who is a Muslim teenager with superpowers.

Apart from this newcomer, the superheroes we already know are seeing their influence more and more widespread. This is the case for example of Catwoman, Harley Quinn or Wonder Woman.

The next generation heroes trends among the youngest

Younger people are generally less familiar with the classic superheroes to whom we refer as parents. So, for them, the trending heroes are the ones they grew up with. We find Harry Potter and his whole universe, the Snow Queen, Vaiana, Ninja Turtle or even Pokémon.

The undying always present

Despite the arrival of new superheroes every year, the "classic" heroes have not disappeared and are still part of the trends in 2021. Always very appreciated, we find Batman, Spiderman, Superman or Captain America.
