Who are the Avengers?

Origins

To understand the history of the Avengers, let's go back for a moment to its creators. In 1939, a promising American publishing house was born. It will revolutionize the world of comics throughout the 20^e century. This company will take several names, the last one dates from the 60s: it is Marvel.

Little by little the company will develop thanks to the fabulous avant-garde work of screenwriter Stan Lee and cartoonist Jack Kirby. Together, they will tell in pictures the incredible adventures of superheroes. Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Spiderman... are all fantastic characters launched by Marvel Comics. In 2009, Disney bought the company and created the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Avengers appeared for the first time in 1963 in the comic book Avenger, a comic book periodical. This team of vigilantes brings together the superheroes of the Marvel universe, fictional characters already known to the public. It is only much later that Marvel Studios will seize the comic to adapt it to the cinema.

The film Avengers released in 2012. Its box office success grossed more than $1.5 billion worldwide. Other films followed, including Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). The last two Marvel blockbusters break all records: between them, they earn more than 4.7 billion euros.

Cinematographic history

The Avengers are vigilantes with super powers, teamed up to build a planetary protection team. Their common mission: to work for peace in the world. It is the American military agency called S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategy, Ability, Intervention, Execution and Defensive Logistics) that requisitions them to neutralize Loki and his army who came to conquer the Earth. The first team consists of Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye.

Iron Man aka Tony Parker is a highly acclaimed character in the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). An eccentric and billionaire playboy, he is also a true genius. Former CEO of Stark Industries, he will create armored armor to escape his captors. This is how Tony Parker becomes Iron Man. He will be part of the very first team of the Avengers.

Captain America is none other than Captain Steve Rogers. This fighter stands out as the first hero of the Earth. A veteran of World War II, he became one of the founding members of the Avengers. His power: superhuman physical abilities that come from a serum developed by scientist Abraham Erskine.

Hulk, this angry green giant, is the result of the transformation of Dr. Robert Bruce Banner. A renowned scientist, this researcher exposed to high levels of radiation will become the infernal brute named Hulk during provocations or excitement. He too will be part of the first Avengers.

The creation of "Avengers Campus" to grow again and again

Thirty years after the creation of its first park, Disney decided to design a territory dedicated to the Marvel Justice League. Avengers Campus, the first space dedicated to the Marvel universe in Europe, opens its doors on July 20, 2022 in Paris. Now, visitors can meet superheroes, watch spectacular scenes and jump into the action with two new attractions.
