Is this the end of the big football clubs?

The list of nominees for the 2018 Ballon d'Or has finally fallen, the Ronaldo Messi era may be over, but the Ballon d'Or is highly likely to remain in La Liga.

This Monday, October 8, France Football announced the nominees for the three greatest individual awards of Football: the Ballon d'Or awarded to the best male player in the world, the Ballon d'Or awarded to the best female player in the world and the Kopa trophy awarded to the best player under 21 in the world.

The new Kopa Prize is named after French international Raymond Kopa, who in 1958 became the first French player to win the Ballon d'Or. There are 30 nominees for the Ballon d'Or, 15 for the Women's Ballon d'Or and 10 for the Kopa Trophy. The lucky ones will be announced on December 3rd in Paris. The average age of the thirty players is 28.2 years. The youngest is Kyllian Mbappe (19) and the oldest are Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric (33).

France leads in terms of nationality with 7 named players followed by Brazil with 4 players. Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has already won three major individual trophies in the last three months: He has been voted Champions League player of the year, Best Player of the 2018 World Cup and finally FIFA's best player for 2018.

He would apparently be the big favourite to lift the Ballon d'Or in front of players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kyllian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi. However, if Luka Modric wins the title, Real Madrid would equalise FC Barcelona with 11 wins at the Ballon d'Or knowing that with 8 players Real Madrid is the most represented club closely followed by Liverpool, Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain and theAtletico de Madrid
